Use the address below to get a message to Dee
I use Despammed as well as my domain name because they (despammed.com)
filter out the spam for me. They also contact the relevant authorities
should they have a case against an abuser of ISP
contract rules.
They then forward the email to another address of my choice.
Should I choose not to forward my mail I can access their site with
my browser (Internet Explorer, Opera
or the like) to read and write my mail. I use this option when travelling
away from home, very handy as any user of Yahoo or Gmail will agree.
Any email addresses on webpages are subject to being picked up by harvest
programs which trawl the net for addresses to add to the databases which
are then sold to small business makers/owners, often unaware of the
legalities, who wish to do the best marketing(sell) job they can.
Whilst I wish these startups and small home businesses luck I can't
abide unsolicited mail and despammed.com keeps my mailbox trim and will
hopefully help influence the activites of the large Internet Service
Providers who allow spammers to deluge the network and thus slow down
our net and cost us money. Next time you are noticing your download
getting slow think of all the Unsolicited Mail that's being fed into
the system.
To prevent my email address from being harvested from
any web pages that I place it on I encode
it first. I've made a small utility that will allow you to encode your
email address at home. If you would like that utility please mail
me, or download it from here: Deez encoder
If you want to do your bit for reducing unneccesary spam
then don't put your friends email addresses into website questionaires
without their permission.
This can even include web postcards and carbon copying (CC'ing) letters
to people.
Typically people will forward jokes or chain mail to one another but
they include all their friends'/acquaintances' email addresses without
knowing where they might end up.
If you need to bulk post a letter a good method is to use the Blind
Carbon Copy (BCC) feature. This feature means that the recipients do
not see any other email address than their own. So that means they can't
unwittingly forward these addresses to others that may compound the
errors.
ISPs allow, I believe, up to 25
addresses for your bulk emailing requirements. More than that and your
own mail starts to become UBE which
will possibly cause them to suspend your account.
And if you really do mail out a lot of bulk mail then it might be that
a mailing list is the item for you.
In fact a mailing list is good just for keeping in touch with a list of favourite friends or a particular social group or sports club. You give the list the names and every time you send mail to that list those people receive it.
The list can be sent to only allow mail from you or the list recipients which means spam and viruses find it hard to get through.
